Moon Landing Ranking Sheet

NASA Exercise: Survival on the Moon

Statistical investigation
·     Conduct investigations using the statistical enquiry cycle:
gathering, sorting, and displaying multivariate category and whole number data
identifying patterns and trends in context
     communicating findings, using data displays.

Scenario:

You are a member of a space crew originally scheduled to rendezvous with a
mother ship on the lighted surface of the moon. However, due to mechanical
difficulties, your ship was forced to land at a spot some 200 miles from the
rendezvous point. During reentry and landing, much of the equipment aboard
was damaged and, since survival depends on reaching the mother ship, the
most critical items available must be chosen for the 200-mile trip. Below are
listed the 15 items left intact and undamaged after landing. Your task is to
rank order them in terms of their importance for your crew in allowing them
to reach the rendezvous point. Place the number 1 by the most important item,
the number 2 by the second most important, and so on through number 15 for
the least important.

My space ship crashed into the moon and I had to grab 15 items. 1 being the most important to 15 being the least. Then I had to find the difference between my rankings and the the NASA scientist.

Moon Landing Ranking Chart- Salvaged Items

First of all my partner and I ranked from 1-15 what we thought was the most important items to grab from the spacecraft. Then we had to find the difference between our ratings.
Next we compared our ranking to a NASA scientist to our own. The least difference was tank of oxygen and the map  and the most difference was the pistol, milk and compass.  Then we had to graph our results.

What I enjoyed about this activity was.......

It was fun and cool  and it was a good activity

What I didn't enjoy about this activity was..........

Having to type the names of the objects

What I learnt during this activity was.............

That graphs are cool and a lot of fun. Interesting as well. I wonder why the Nasa scientists like the compass so much.

We have been working on graphs and i have been working with my buddy to do this. We have to see who  was the closest to the Nasa’s  score. We have to do this by doing our score first then our buddy's score then Nasa score. Finding the difference and closest.

First of all my partner and I ranked from 1-15 what we thought was the most important items to grab from the spacecraft. Then we had to find the difference between our ratings.  The least difference was the rope, boxes of matches and flares  and the most difference was nylon rope and parachute. We then had to graph our results an interpret them.

Next we compared our ranking to a NASA scientist to our own. The least difference was the oxagen, matches and water  and the most difference was portable heating unit. Then we had to graph our results.

What I enjoyed about this activity was
Working with my buddy was good because we could help each other
What I didn't enjoy about this activity was.
Nothing it was fun and new.
What I learnt during this activity was.
How to use the graph making app. It’s really easy. How to read the results.

First of all my partner and I ranked from 1-15 what we thought was the most important items to grab from the spacecraft. Then we had to find the difference between our ratings.  The least difference was 0  and the most difference was 10. We then had to graph our results an interpret them.

Next we compared our ranking to a NASA scientist to our own. The least difference was the water and compass and the most difference was the mapand parachute silk .  Then we had to graph our results.

What I enjoyed about this activity was.......
I could  work with a friend and through this  learn more about maths

What I didn't enjoy about this activity was..........
Being distracted

What I learnt during this activity was............
I thought a box of matches and flares would be great. For heat and to get help.

First of all my partner and I ranked from 1-15 what we thought was the most important items to grab from the space craft. Then we had to find the difference between our ratings.  The least difference was food  and the most difference was signal flares. We then had to graph our results an interpret them.

Next we compared our ranking to a NASA scientist to our own. The least difference was oxagen and heating unit and the most difference was food concentrate. Food concentrate sounds yuck. Then we had to graph our results.

What I enjoyed about this activity was......
Doing the bar graph was cool

What I didn't enjoy about this activity was..........
Doing things on the ipad because ogf the small keys.

What I learnt during this activity was.............
How to use the  graph maker.

First of all my partner and I ranked from 1-15 what we thought was the most important items to grab from the spacecraft. Then we had to find the difference between our ratings.  The least difference was0 of the raft and the most difference was 11 map. We then had to graph our results an interpret them.

Next we compared our ranking to a NASA scientist to our own. The least difference was the map and the most difference was the box of matches Then we had to graph our results.

What I enjoyed about this activity was
Adding the numbers the numbers to get the difference.

What I didn't enjoy about this activity was
Getting stuck. I should have asked straight away for help.

What I learnt during this activity was
Doing  the maths and seeing the result. Aslo it was interesting why don’t they want a box of matches. Can’t you use these on the moon?

This is the difference between me (Chloe) and Holden.  The closest ranking were signal flares, first aid kit, magnetic compass and solar panal. The graetest difference between my partner and the pistol and the map. I wonder what the difference will be between each of our rankings and Nasas.

This is us working out the difference between both our ratings up against the NASA scientist. There are some big differences.
